Books are a priceless source of wisdom.

But people are the ultimate teachers, and there may be lessons that we can only learn from observing them or being in their presence.

In many cases, these lessons are never communicated verbally.

How to choose an appropriate role model

  • Clearly define what you are looking for.
  • Look for people who achieved results similar to your goals.
  • Look for people who had the same problems and study how they overcame them.
  • If you have trouble staying motivated, look for inspirational people.
  • If you lack discipline, look for disciplined role models.

Parents are our first role models

  • We are so busy growing up that we often forget that they are growing old.
  • Give them time.
  • Show appreciation for little acts.
  • Make small gestures of love and affection.

Associates

  • Surround yourself with people smarter than you. To be a winner, work with winners.
  • It is wiser to be with better people and to be uncomfortable than to limit yourself to a mediocre circle to feel comfortable.

Trust

  • Trust lies at the heart of any relationship.
  • Trust is earned when actions meet words.

How to build trust

  • Be honest in your communications.
  • Be authentic and sincere in both words and actions.
  • Be transparent and admit mistakes
  • Share your learnings
  • Be reliable
  • Be fair in your dealings with others
  • Add value to others
  • Always show up
